Day trip to St. Echmiatsin

Tour brief description

Discover UNESCO World Heritage–listed attractions in Armenia including Etchmiadzin Cathedral, Saint Hripsime Church and Saint Gayane Church on this 4-hour tour from Yerevan.

In the morning visit Etchmiadzin Cathedral. This is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church located in the city of Vagharshapat, Armenia. Most scholars believe this to be the first Cathedral, but not the first church built in ancient Armenia. It is also believed to be the oldest cathedral in the world.

After visiting the Cathedral you will visit Saint Hripsime Church, which is one of the oldest surviving churches in Armenia. The church was erected by Catholicos Komitas atop the original mausoleum in 395 AD that contained the remains of the martyred Saint Hripsime. The church was dedicated to Saint Hripsime and the structure was completed in 618 AD.

The third visit will be to Church of Saint Gayane that was built by Catholicos Ezra I in the year 630. It is located within walking distance from the Etchmiadzin Cathedral. This is a 7th-century Armenian church in Vagharshapat (Etchmiadzin) the religious center of Armenia.
